The robot uses a pass through type extractor mechanism. This mechanism incorporates a parallel jaw gripper to clamp the sides of the container and pull it from the carousel shelf and onto the platform.
The platform moves vertically to the proper position. The gripper mechanism then discharges the container on to the take away conveyor. Each inserter/extractor device can service from one to four tiers of carousels. The carousels not in use, preposition for the next pick to increase throughput.
